Music Performance Curriculum
The Bachelor of Music in Performance program consists of 120 semester credit hours and typically takes 4 years to complete. Two thirds of the curriculum is dedicated to the study of music and the other third to general studies. A brief breakdown of the requirements is as follows:
Music Performance and Academic Core Courses: 73 semester hours *
- Applied Major (instrumental or voice) - 8 semesters
- Junior and Senior Recitals
- Ensemble participation - 8 semesters
- Music Theory - 4 semesters
- Music Literature - 2 semesters
- Music History - 2 semesters
- Counterpoint
- Form and Analysis
- Conducting
- Literature of the Applied Major
- Pedagogy of the Applied Major
- Minor Instrument/Piano Proficiency
General Education Courses: 41 semester hours *
- First Year Seminar
- Seminar in World Music
- Student selected courses to fulfill General Education requirements in Foreign Language, Mathematical Thought, Health and Wellness, Science and Technology, Philosophical Thought, Creative Dimension, and International Perspectives, Human behavior, and American Traditions
Electives: 6 semester hours *
