What was your favorite part of your program, Statistics and Data Science, at UE? What sets it apart from other schools?

The ability to work on meaningful projects that have a real-world impact while still being an undergraduate is a huge advantage. It allows you to compete with those who have master’s degrees in the job market and often makes you the better candidate.

How did this program prepare you for your career? Which experiences were most beneficial?

The program taught me how to think critically. Data scientists are problem solvers with unique toolkits; the program helped me build that toolkit and figure out how to pick the right tool for the job to provide maximum benefit for stakeholders.

Why would you recommend the Statistics and Data Science Program at UE?

It is a unique program that allows those in it to be on equal footing with many master’s students straight out of undergraduate. It emphasizes both the theoretical sides of data science that you would typically only see in graduate-level courses while also allowing students to test the theory on real-world problems they may face in their careers. Gathering that practical experience will set students apart from their peers when hunting for internships and jobs.

Is there any advice you would give to current students?

Learn how to learn and become a lifelong learner. Data science is a field that is constantly evolving. There are advancements every day, and things you learn today in the classroom could be outdated in five years. To stay current, you continue to learn new skills to add to your toolkit. Learn how each tool works and learn how to use them.
